Our Host Churches
The Refuge has no formal building in which we can shelter the homeless. This is where our partnership with local churches is crucial to how The Refuge operates. Each night, The Refuge volunteers check in each homeless person and then transports them to a host church during the season. At the host church they receive dinner, ministered to, and given a warm place to sleep for the night.
The Refuge Partners With Local Churches Like Yours to Shelter and Feed the Homeless in Lapeer County!
Local churches provide their building, volunteers for meal preparation, and minister to and visit with the homeless at night. This is a great time to interact and “get to know” the people and to understand their needs. During this time ministry and outreach occur within the church – such that you will not see on a typical Sunday morning. Churches can volunteer to host for a week or more during the winter season. Every week the guests move on rotation to the next church.
